CASPER Workshop II - August 2-5, 2008 @ UC Berkeley
Following the success of the CASPER Workshop held in Berkeley in Summer 2007, a new workshop is being planned for 2008.
Whereas the previous workshop focussed primarily on introductions to CASPER hardware, tools and designs, we expect that in this workshop the emphasis will shift towards projects using CASPER technology that are under development or have been deployed by various groups over the past year. We will be soliciting proposals for talks in the near future, and we hope to have most of our collaborators (including at NRAO, Caltech, Iowa, Berkeley, MeerKAT and the ATA) present their work so that everyone can learn from the collective experience of the past year's efforts.
We still plan to devote a day to introducing participants new to CASPER to our hardware and software, so that they can get up-to-speed and start building instruments.

Dates
The dates for the workshop are August 2-5, 2008. These dates have been chosen specifically so that international participants can attend both the CASPER workshop and the URSI General Assembly later in the month without having to exit and re-enter the United States.
Incidentally, many people from the "CASPER community" will be at the Radio Astronomy sessions (Session J) at URSI, so if you're not able to make it to the CASPER workshop, you should be able to speak to many people who are working on CASPER-related projects at URSI, both CASPER staff/students, and our collaborators.

There are several opportunities during the workshop for discussion groups to meet. Discussion groups will be formed on the first day of the workshop, but the following possibilities exist:

Wireless Internet Access
At the BWRC:
Ask Henry or Dan for a username and password to use the Airbears wireless network
At SSL:
Basic Network Settings:
For PC Windows, verify your network connections settings are
Obtain and IP address automatically Obtain DNS server address automatically
For MacOS X, open System Preferences: Network: Airport: TCP/IP
The "Configure IPv4" setting should be set to "DHCP".
Connect to an access point: To use the SSL-AIR network, select the wireless network system ID (SID) "SSL-AIR". Wait a few seconds for your computer to get an automatic IP address. Now you need to authenticate to the network.
Authenticate to the network: Open a web browser and point it to any HTTP address (HTTPS addresses won't work). You should get redirected* to a HTTPS-protected login page with the SSL logo asking for your wireless username/password. This is either your SSL LDAP username and password or your guest wireless username and password. Once you enter the username and password correctly, you will be redirected to your original HTTP webpage request. Now you can use the network.
If you don't get redirected to an HTTPS-protected login page right away, hit the refresh button on your browser a couple of times -- it can take a few seconds to get an IP address for this to work.
Lost connection or connection timed out? If at any point you seem to have lost your network connection, it's possible that your login timed out (mandatory timeouts are set at 10 hours). To reconnect, simply point your browser at an HTTP address again and reauthenticate as you did initially.
Getting to Space Sciences Lab Monday and Tuesday
The Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL) street address is 7 Gauss Way, Berkeley, CA 94720. The meeting is in the main conference room of the SSL addition, the building with lots of glass doors.
To get to Space Sciences Lab, take the H(Hill) bus from UC Berkeley's Evans Hall(Heast Mining circle) to the Space Sciences Laboratory (SSL). SSL is the last stop, it's about a 12 minute ride.
